Mickey and Pals visit the Colosseum

In 1991 Bhutan issued several souvenir sheets picturing Mickey and his pals exploring some of the world's wonders.  The sheet offered here pictures Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in a chariot race at Rome, Italy's Colosseum.  Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, construction on the Colosseum began in 70 AD.  It could hold up to 80,000 people and was often used for gladiator contests, mock sea battles, animal hunts, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas.  Today it stands as the largest amphitheater in the world.
