Do You Remember Willie the Operatic Whale?
This fun 1993 Dominica souvenir sheet features a scene from the 1946 short, Willie the Operatic Whale, also known as The Whale Who Wanted To Sing At At the Met. It pictures Willie singing for his sea going friends.
Released as part of the feature, Make Mine Music, it tells the story of whale that captivates sailors and other sea life with his beautiful singing. When word of his talents reaches the human world, Tetti-Tatti, an Opera Director, is convinced that he has swallowed three opera singers and sets out to rescue them. Willie sings for Tetti, and imagines himself before huge crowds in grand theaters. However, Tetti still isn't convinced and shoots Willie with a harpoon. But in the end, we find out that Willie is singing sold-out concerts in heaven.
