More About Jamaica...
Jamaica is an island country in the Caribbean Sea. It has an area of 4,240 sqaure miles and is the third largest island in the Greater Antilles and the Caribbean. Jamaica is closest to Cuba, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and the British Overseas Territory of the Cayman Islands. The capital is Kingston, also the country's largest city. Jamaica is technically a Commonwealth realm with Elizabeth II as its queen.
Jamaica was the first British colony to establish a post office, with the first postmaster put in place October 31, 1671, not long after the British gained possession of the island. British stamps were used from May 8, 1858 to 1860, when Jamaica began producing its own stamps. There's plenty more interesting Jamaica postal history to discover. Click here to check it out.
