Guadeloupe is an archipelago (chain of islands) in the Caribbean and is an overseas department and region of France. It includes six inhabited islands and many uninhabited islands and outcrops. It's located south of Antigua and Barbuda as well as Montserrat, and north of Dominica.
Guadeloupe's first postage stamps appeared in 1884 and consisted of French colonies stamps overprinted with "G.P.E" or "GUADELOUPE." It issued its first definitives in 1892, and has used stamps of France from 1947 on.
