2018 50¢ O Beautiful – Lone Ranch Beach, Oregon
Countless pristine sandy beaches can be found along America’s Pacific Coast. They are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and just enjoying the seaside. Other beaches are less desirable for these activities but are more impressive in their beautiful scenery and wildlife. Such is the case with the beaches in Oregon.
The Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor is located on the southern coast of Oregon and is home to several remarkable sites. One is Lone Ranch Beach, just north of Brookings. Here, visitors will find some sandy areas plus lots of small rocks worn smooth by the surf. In the water are towering sea stacks – tall rock formations created by thousands of years of erosion by waves. At low tide, there are many shallow pools full of marine life to explore. These tide pools contain everything from starfish and crabs to sea urchins and small fish. Whales, porpoises, and seals can sometimes be seen offshore, too.
With its generally wet and cool climate, clear days in Oregon can be hit or miss. But since Lone Ranch Beach is along the southern coast, the sun appears more often than in other parts of the state. The beach is beautiful on any day, but nothing beats the stunning views you get when the sun comes out.
