The stamp includes the inscription “November 1935.” This was a notable first – the first time the month and year of issue were part of a stamp’s design. The 25¢ denomination satisfied the rate for mail sent on one leg of the trans-Pacific flight – from San Francisco to Hawaii, Hawaii to Guam, or Guam to Manila. Another stamp you’ll get honors the Wright bothers. It was issued for the 46th anniversary of their first successful flight of a heavier-than-air powered aircraft. The flight took place on December 17, 1903, at 10:30 a.m. at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The brothers later received a patent for the first airplane and produced the US Army’s first airplanes.
