More About Austria...

As you may know, Argentina is a county in the southern portion of Central Europe.  It is on the Eastern Alps and composed of nine federated states.  It is bordered by Germany to the northwest, the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia to the northeast, Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west.

Austria's first postage stamps (under the Austrian Empire) were issued June 1, 1850.  The first stamp didn't feature "Austria" as it was intended for use in all of central Europe (including Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, north Italy, Austria, and Hungary).  Austria has a tumultuous and rich history that led to quite a few changes in postage stamps in the next hundred plus years.  To learn more about it, click here.
