Own America’s Very First Postage Stamps and SAVE

Now 175 years old, US #1 and 2 are essential additions to your collection – and you can get them in one easy order.  With this special offer, you'll get US #1 in used condition with very fine centering.  Because these stamps were cut by hand in poor lighting, it’s hard to find them with such fine centering. You'll also get US #2 in postally used condition with small imperfections.  These imperfections in no way detract from the stamp’s beauty or collectibility, but save you over $500 off Mystic's U.S. Stamp Catalog price.

Two Important Pieces of Philatelic and American History

America’s first postage stamps were placed on sale on July 1, 1847.  US #1, the 5¢ Franklin stamp, paid the half ounce postage rate for any letter traveling 300 miles or less.  The 10¢ Washington stamp, US #2, paid the half ounce rate for letters traveling over 300 miles.  These stamps helped to revolutionize our mail system, so it’s only fitting they picture two of America’s revolutionary founding fathers.

The “Father of America’s Postal Service,” Benjamin Franklin was America’s first Postmaster General, credited with organizing America’s postal service in the 1700s.  He standardized rates, surveyed routes, erected milestones along long-distance delivery routes, and slashed delivery time between major cities by half.  The father of our country, George Washington, not only led us to victory in the American Revolution, but he guided America’s early days as our first president.

Busy Postal Clerks Didn’t Spare Margins –
But You Can Get US #1 with Very Fine Centering

The first US postage stamps were issued in large sheets without perforations.  Postal clerks just cut the stamps off the sheet by hand.  Often the clerks snipped away in a haphazard fashion, too busy to consider what their carelessness would mean to future stamp collectors.  Because the clerks’ scissors frequently cut into the design of the stamp, very few stamps were left with their margins intact.  That’s why you’ll be proud to own a US #1 with very fine centering.  It’s a miracle any stamps have survived in this condition after 175 years.  You’ll want to secure one in your collection now.

Did You Know... US #2 is Much Rarer Than US #1!

In comparison to US #1, far fewer US #2 stamps were printed.  An even smaller number of the stamps were distributed to post offices... and not all of those made their way into the hands of the public.  In fact, US #2 is more than four times scarcer than US #1.  Of course not all the stamps that were sold were saved – so the number of collectors who can own it now is even smaller.

Take advantage of this special opportunity to own what can only be described as two national stamp treasures.  Make your collecting dreams come true – order today.
