Rare Narcotic Stamps                                    Type 3 Pairs and Blocks – Very Few Multiples Exist!

Now is your chance to own uncommon pairs or blocks of Type 3 Narcotic stamps from the vaults of the Smithsonian National Collection Archives.  Printed in 1963 by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Type 1 and Type 2 were used by only a single company to pay taxes on its products.  Color bars in the corners helped the BEP align the stamps before the denomination was added.  However, Type 3 doesn't have color bars, and no used examples have been found – making it a curiosity to collectors.

In 1964, Narcotic stamps included the denomination in their design, removing the need for color bars.  It appears Type 3 was printed sometime during the BEp's transition to these new stamps.  Not needed by the company who used Type 1 and 2, Type 3 was sent to the Smithsonian instead – explaining why used stamps never made it to collectors.  Add these scarce Narcotic stamps to your collection today.
