 This issue commemorates the fortieth anniversary of an agreement between the United Nations and the United States which permits the United Nations to issue its own stamps. With the founding of the U.N.P.A., a truly unique institution was born.  It is unique because the United Nations is the only organization in the world which can issue its own postage stamps. Because the U.N.P.A.’s stamps symbolize the efforts of the United Nations for a better world, the impact goes far beyond the boundaries of philately. The stamps reflect the United Nations work toward international cooperation in issues of importance to all mankind. The beauty, uniqueness, and special significance of U.N. stamps, combined with their individual histories, continue to be a source of fascination and of great value to the collector.
