Why the stamp was issued:  According to the USPS, this stamp (along with the others in the Waterfalls set) were issued to celebrate “the variety and beauty of American waterfalls.”

About the stamp design:  This stamp pictures an existing photograph of Stewart Falls in Utah along with its name and the state it’s located in (text is below the image).

First Day City:  Issued in Yellowstone National Park, appropriate considering one of the stamps pictures a major waterfall in the park.

About the Waterfalls set:  The USPS issued the 2023 Waterfalls set to showcase a small handful of the 17,000 documented waterfalls in America.  Each one has something special about it that draws visitors from all walks of life to witness its natural beauty and power.  These stamps include small, lesser-known waterfalls like Sunbeam Falls in Washington State as well as huge, worldwide attractions like Niagara Falls in New York.

Here's a complete list of the waterfalls pictured in the set:

a)  Deer Creek Falls, Arizona
b)  Nevada Falls, California
c)  Harrison Falls, Pennsylvania
d)  Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, Wyoming
e)  Waimoku Falls, Hawaii
f)  Stewart Falls, Utah
g)  Niagara Falls, New York
h)  Dark Hollow Falls, Virginia
i)  Grotto Falls, Tennessee
j)  Sunbeam Falls, Washington
k)  LaSalle Canyon Falls, Illinois
l)  Upper Falls, North Carolina

History the stamp represents:  Mount Timpanogos in Provo, Utah, is the second-highest mountain in the Wasatch Range.  It is located within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and hosts the Sundance Resort and Timpanogos Cave National Monument.  There is something for everyone to enjoy in this part of Utah, including fancs of waterfalls.

Stewart’s Cascades (or Stewart Falls) is a series of five waterfalls on a branch of the North Fork of the Provo River.  The water drops 475 feet along 560 feet of waterway.  The five “steps” of the cascades measure 55, 85, 30, 200, and 35 feet individually, with approximately 70 feet of cascading stream in between the steps.  There are also some smaller waterfalls upstream.  Stewart Falls is spring-fed, so it runs year round.  It has a higher flow rate during the spring with meltwater coming down from the mountain.

To reach Stewart’s Cascades, hikers must park at Aspen Grove and make their way to the Stewart’s Cascades trail from there.  Along the way are several overlook points with views of nearby Sundance ski slopes.  At the falls, inexperienced hikers should stay at the base, while those with more experience can make the steep climb closer to the top.  Both allow visitors to enjoy the beauty of Stewart’s Cascades up close, an experience like no other.
