Elvis Wins Final Grammy Award

Elvis was given the Best Inspiration Performance award for his song, “How Great Thou Art.” The song was recorded during a live concert in Memphis (his first in his hometown in 13 years) on March 20, 1974. The album, Elvis Recorded Live On Stage in Memphis, was issued July 7, 1974.

Elvis’ hit “How Great Thou Art” was a Christian hymn that came from a Swedish poem by Carl Gustav Boberg in 1885. Reportedly, Boberg was inspired to pen the words while walking home from Church and witnessing an amazing storm. Thunder, lighting and strong winds were followed by a beautiful rainbow, a crystal-clear lake, the song of a thrush, and church bells.
