Elvis Meets His Future Wife in Germany

This coin honors the day Elvis met his wife, Priscilla. Born in New York, Priscilla Beaulieu moved to Germany with her family when her stepfather was stationed there with the Air Force.

When she was 14, Priscilla would often spend her spare time at the Eagles Club. While there one day, she was approached by Elvis’ friend, Currie Grant, who asked if she’d like to meet the famous rock star. She agreed, of course.

On September 13, Currie, his wife, and Priscilla made the 40-minute drive to Elvis’ off base house in Bad Nauheim. When she arrived at Elvis’ house both were nervous. But Elvis tried to impress her by playing his songs.

After their meeting, Priscilla was so excited she often couldn’t concentrate on her school work. She also didn’t tell any of her friends, because she didn’t think anyone would believe her. For the next six months, the pair were nearly inseparable, visiting one another as often as they could. But when Elvis had to return to the US when his term was up, Priscilla was devastated.

They continued to communicate by mail and phone over the next two years. Though Elvis dated other women, Priscilla held a special place in his heart. Two years later, Priscilla made her first trip to visit Elvis in America. She would finally move to Memphis to live near Elvis that October, under the agreement that she live with Elvis’ father and finish her education. The two were later married in 1967.
