Blue Suede Shoes
In November 1955, Elvis left Sun Studio and signed with RCA. Shortly after, Carl Perkins, another artist with Sun Sudio, wrote and recorded “Blue Suede Shoes.” The single was released on the Sun label on January 1, 1956.
Elvis recorded “Blue Suede Shoes” on the RCA label January 30, 1956. He had made his first national television appearance just two days earlier on Jackie Gleason’s Stage Show and was rocketing to fame almost overnight.
Although Elvis’ version of “Blue Suede Shoes” proved more popular than Perkins’ recording – spending 12 weeks on the Billboard charts and peaking at #24 – the two artists remained good friends. The song that became one of Presley’s most popular was finally certified as a gold record in 1999.
