Paradise, Hawaiian Style

Besides his unrivaled success in the music industry, Elvis was also a top Hollywood box office draw.  His film Paradise, Hawaiian Style was one in a long line of successes.  Filmed mostly on location at the Hanalei Plantation Resort and the Maui Sheraton Hotel in Hawaii, this movie was a feast for the eyes and a mini vacation for anyone who watched it. 

Presley plays pilot Rick Richards, who starts a helicopter charter business with his friend Danny Kohana.  Rick’s carelessness puts his career and the business in danger. 

During the filming, Elvis visited the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, which his benefit concert in March 1961 helped fund.  While there, he laid a wreath of 1,177 white carnations, one for every person who lost his life that day on the Arizona.
