This Classic First Day Cover features the 1984 Christmas stamps. The painting of the "Madonna and Child," by Fra Filippo Lippi, hangs in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

The Contemporary Christmas stamp for 1984 was the result of the national competition for school children to design a stamp. Danny LaBoccetta, an 8-year-old from Jamaica, NY, drew a cheerful Santa with a sack of toys. The stamp was unveiled at Danny’s school.
