Morgan Silver Dollars
The Morgan Silver Dollar coin was named for its designer and engraver, George Morgan. The coin was minted from 1878 to 1904 and was made of 90% pure silver. Over the years, Morgan Silver Dollar coins were produced by the San Francisco, Carson City, and New Orleans Mints. During World War I, the stock pile of Silver Dollar coins (over 270,000,000) was melted down to aid our ally, the United Kingdom. In 1921, the Morgan Silver Dollar coin was minted once more for just one year and was only produced at the Denver Mint.
