Is Your Collection Missing the Complete 1890-93 Regular Issue Stamp Set?

The 1890-93 Regular Issue stamps marked an important change in US stamp production. They were the last to be produced by a private printer, the American Banknote Company.

In 1894, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing took over.  They added triangles to the top corners of the new designs to distinguish them from earlier issues. Collectors nicknamed the 1890-93 stamps “No Triangles.”

All these historical details make the 1890-93 Regular Issue stamps a key set you’ll want in your serious US stamp collection.  In addition to their philatelic significance, these stamps are also pieces of US history frozen in time. They picture richly engraved portraits you’ll love. It’s fascinating to look back on
who was considered the most important historical figures at that time.

Although similar in design to the previous issues, this series of stamps was smaller in size and featured new colors never before used.  Included in this set is #219D.  Customers complained about its unattractive color and how the ink ran when soaked in water.  Postal officials decided to reissue the stamp in carmine, resulting in #220.

Set honors several important Americans including: Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, James Garfield, William T. Sherman, Daniel Webster, Henry Clay, Thomas Jefferson and Oliver Perry.
