These stamps were issued by the Imperial British East Africa Company (IBEAC), a chartered company that administered British interests in East Africa before colonial government control was formally established.

The Imperial British East Africa Company was active 1888–1895 in roughly present-day Kenya and Uganda.  It was chartered by the British Crown to administer and develop trade and infrastructure in East Africa.

It was succeeded by the British East Africa Protectorate (in 1895, direct British government rule replaced the company).
