Very Scarce 1¢ Pan-American Invert - Ready to be Added to Your Collection
The 1¢ Pan-American Invert is one of the most well-known error stamps in US history. Yet, only a few collectors can own one.
The stamp was issued in 1901 for the Pan-American Exposition, which celebrated America’s progress in transportation and industry. It was one of six stamps released for the event – the first US stamps of the 20th century, and the first bi-colored stamps since the 1869 Pictorials. The printing process made them prone to mistakes, and this one shows the steamer City of Alpena printed upside-down.
These inverts were found in at least 4 different post offices shortly after the stamps were released. Out of 450,000 sheets printed, only 10 sheets were discovered inverted. Thats just 1,000 stamps total, and many of those have been lost to the ravages of time. Most surviving examples today are off-center or have heavily disturbed gum.
This stamp has small flaws that reflect its age, but these don’t take away from the stamp’s beauty or impact. If anything, they just make it easier to own a great-looking example of this famous error.
Have you been waiting for this stamp to be available for you to add to your collection? When we have them, these inverts typically sell quick – don't let this opportunity slip away! Time payments are available with Affirm to make it easier to add to your collection.
