Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys filmed the Egg Nebula, located about 3,000 light years from Earth. The rings of light are layers of dust ejected into space from the star that is at the end of its life. The thick dust belt in the center hides the star from sight. The blue color was made by polarized filters on the camera and helps astronomers learn more about the properties of the dust and the location of the star.
