Issue Date: April 25, 2008
City: Burlingame, California
Printed By: Avery Dennison Security Printing Division
Printing Method: Photogravure
Perforations: 8½ die-cut
Color: Multicolored
The set features five tropical fruits, each shown in cross-section: pomegranate, star fruit, kiwi, papaya, and guava. The stamps were issued in two strips of five, with the designs appearing in reverse order in the second strip, so the complete set of ten shows all five fruits twice. The colorful gradient backgrounds shift from cool blues and greens to warm oranges and pinks across the strip, giving the whole set a bright, summery feel. These were issued as non-machinable surcharge stamps, meaning they covered the extra postage required for square or unusually shaped envelopes that couldn't run through postal sorting machines automatically.
