About the Charles Schulz set:  Issued for Schulz’s 100th birth anniversary.  Includes 10 different stamp designs, each picturing a different PEANUTS character.  The center of the complete pane of 20 includes a black-and-white photograph of Schulz taken in 1987.

History the stamp represents:  Peppermint Patty’s school days are dominated by D- grades, but after school, she’s all aces on the ballfield!  Baseball, football, and skating are just a few of the sports she excels at and just one of the reasons her dad always calls her “his rare gem.”

Peppermint Patty lives in a separate neighborhood than the rest of the Peanuts gang and managers her own baseball team.  She often falls asleep in class, wakes up with a start, and gives the wrong answer.  She dreads the inevitable D minus.  She also tends to misunderstand ideas others might consider obvious.  For quite a long time, she thought Snoopy was “a funny-looking kid with a big nose.”

Peppermint Patty and her best friend, Marcie, both have a crush on Charlie Brown, who she calls “Chuck.”  Charlie Brown doesn’t realize it, and sometimes inadvertently hurts her feelings when he reveals he doesn’t think about her romantically.

Peppermint Patty wants to be accepted for who she is.  Even with her natural confidence, this isn’t easy.  She’s sporty and witty in a world that prefers girls to be delicate and soft-spoken, and she experiments with being “more feminine” from time to time.  As she has said, “I’m a poor ugly weed trying to push her way up through the sidewalk of life!”
