About the Boston 2026 Stamp Show set: Two stamps. One incredible night. The Old North Church and Paul Revere’s midnight ride are forever linked by an act of resistance that helped birth a nation.
In the shadows of April 18, 1775, church sexton Robert Newman climbed the tower of Old North and lit two lanterns in defiance of British control. Just blocks away, Revere waited in readiness. When he saw the signal (two lights, “by sea”) he took off on horseback, racing through the countryside to sound the alarm.
Issued at the 2025 Great American Stamp Show in Schaumburg, Illinois, these stamps celebrate the Boston 2026 World Stamp Expo. The World Stamp Expo happens every 10 years and is a gathering of collectors, postal historians, and philatelists from around the globe. Each Expo brings with it special US stamp issues, released in advance to commemorate not just the event itself, but the culture, history, and art it showcases.
This time, the stamps look ahead to America’s 250th birthday and honor Boston’s defiant role in our nation’s founding. Together, they capture a moment of courage that changed the world — and remind us why stamps remain one of the most powerful storytellers in history.
History this Stamp Represents: It began with pounding hooves and a shout of warning: “The Regulars are coming out!” Paul Revere, riding hard through the midnight streets of Boston and beyond, was not simply delivering news — he was delivering a future.
His famous ride on April 18, 1775, was no spontaneous dash. Revere was part of a well-organized patriot network that included silversmiths, blacksmiths, and ordinary townspeople ready to rise at a moment’s notice. On that fateful night, he covered nearly 20 miles. Alerting John Hancock and Samuel Adams, he sparked a chain of action that lit the fuse of revolution.
This Forever stamp captures the energy and urgency of that ride. It was released in anticipation of the 2026 Boston World Stamp Expo, where collectors gathered just miles from where Revere’s ride began.
Though immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, the real story of Revere is more complex and more inspiring. He didn’t ride alone. Dozens of unsung heroes joined in spreading the alarm. But Revere’s daring leadership, forged in years of quiet resistance, remains unforgettable.
Stamp collectors know the power of the small and the overlooked. This stamp, like the ride it honors, reminds us that history often hinges on the swift action of a few brave patriots, like Paul Revere.
