This stamp featured the 4th of Charles Willson Peale paintings to be used in the George Washington Bicentennial Series. Peale made 14 known paintings of Washington, with this being the last. Washington posed for both Peale and Peales 17-year-old son, Rembrandt Peale. The younger Peale went on to have a successful career as an artist.
*Charles Willson Peale's nephew, Charles Peale Polk, also had artwork pictured on one of the Washington Bicentennial stamps – US #709.
