Cover Celebrates Lake Placid Olympics

The 1980 Winter Olympic Games were held in Lake Placid, New York.  This cover was postmarked on the first day of the games at the Olympic Arena station.   The stamp on the cover, US #1798, pictures a hockey goalie.  The US men's hockey victory against the Soviet Union became known as the "Miracle on Ice."  This cover is a fitting commemorative of the 1980 Winter Games.
