On July 21, 1961, Grissom piloted the second Project Mercury flight in his spacecraft Liberty Bell 7. Three years later, he became the first NASA astronaut to fly into space twice, when he commanded the Gemini 3 as it orbited the earth three times. When the Apollo program began, Grissom was chosen to pilot the first flight. On January 27, 1967, as the crew was going through pre-launch tests, the interior of the Command Module caught fire, and Grissom and his two crew mates died as a result. This card, featuring a photo of Gus Grissom, is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to America's space program.
