A new set of airmail stamps of similar design (#C25-31) made their appearance beginning in 1941.  These stamps were intended to cover the various rates in effect for both domestic and overseas airmail service.  Uses included service to areas in the West Indies and Central and South America as well as trans-oceanic airmail.

In August of 1946, President Harry S. Truman signed an Act of Congress that reduced the domestic airmail rate from 8¢ per ounce to 5¢ per ounce, which required new stamps (#C32-39).

These stamps picture the Statue of Liberty and the City of New York (because New York was a major port of entry), the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, a DC-4 Skymaster, the 200th anniversary of the founding of Alexandria, Virginia, the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Universal Postal Union and the 46th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first successful flight.

Add this neat history to your collection today and save money off individual stamp prices.
