Elvis Purchases Beloved Horse – Rising Star
Elvis often returned his home in Memphis, Tennessee, to get away from the public life of a superstar. In late 1965, Elvis bought a horse for his wife, Pricilla, and began the search for the perfect horse for himself. A few months later, he bought a golden palomino named “Midget’s Vandy.” He changed the horse’s name to “Rising Sun” and it became Elvis’ favorite horse. The horse barn became known as the “House of the Rising Sun.” Elvis often rode Rising Sun around the grounds of Graceland, and greeted fans waiting at the front gate for a glimpse of their idol. Elvis’ close friends said some of his happiest times in those years were spent in the saddle of his prized horse.
