(Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame

Although he refused the first song they submitted to him, Elvis had a string of hits in the 1960s written by future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame songwriters Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman.  Among them were: “A Mess of Blues,” “Surrender,” “Suspicion,” “Viva Las Vegas,” “Girl Happy,” “Double Trouble,” and “You’ll Think of Me.”

Elvis recorded the song “(Marie’s The Name) His Latest Flame” on June 26, 1961.  The single – featuring Pomus and Shuman’s “Little Sister” on the flip side – spent 11 weeks on the Billboard chart, peaking at #4 and reaching #1 in the United Kingdom.
