I Feel So Bad

Elvis Presley recorded “I Feel So Bad” on March 12, 1961, at RCA’s Studio B in Nashville. The single was released the following May with “Wild in the Country” on the flip side. It reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 15 on the R&B chart. Reflecting Presley’s worldwide popularity, the single reached number 4 in the UK.

“I Feel So Bad” was written by Chuck Willis in 1953, and was recorded by him that same year. Willis was a popular R&B singer, and his most successful song was “C.C. Rider,” which Elvis also covered. When Dick Clark played Willis’ version on the popular American Bandstand television show, it made the dance “The Stroll” popular. Eventually the artist became known as “The King of the Stroll.”
