My Wish Came True
In 1957, Elvis passed his pre-induction military physical and was classified 1-A by the draft board. He continued to perform and at a concert in Toronto, Canada, wore a suit made of real gold. Back in Los Angeles for the filming of Jailhouse Rock, Elvis recorded a song written by Ivory Joe Hunter – “My Wish Came True.” Another hit for the King, the song spent 11 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 list, peaking at number 12.
Recorded on September 6, 1957, “My Wish Came True” was released on Elvis’ ninth album, 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong. The album pictured Elvis in that famed gold suit and featured several other hit singles including “Don’t,” “Wear My Ring Around Your Neck,” “A Big Hunk o’ Love,” and “A Fool Such as I.”
On a trip to Memphis, Ivory Joe was invited to visit Elvis at Graceland. The two spent the day together. Hunter described the visit saying, “He showed me every courtesy, and I think he’s one of the greatest.”
