Spring Tour Ends – Memphis, Tennessee

In the spring of 1974, Elvis ended his 15-city tour in his hometown of Memphis.  It was the first time Presley had played there in over a decade.  He performed at the Mid-South Coliseum before sellout crowds.  Elvis treated his fans to some of his older hits, as well as recent songs.  Though the crowds had aged since his last performance in Memphis, they were still enthusiastic and eager to enjoy every moment.

The final performance took place on March 20, and a live recording was made of the concert.  This became the Elvis: Recorded Live On Stage in Memphis album.  One of the songs recorded during the performance was “How Great Thou Art.”  Elvis was later awarded his third Grammy award for the gospel song.
