This Mystic-exclusive US half dollar pictures US Special Forces near Basra, Iraq. The Special Forces (SF) played an important role in the war in Iraq. At least one SF battalion infiltrated the country before the formal invasion to eliminate Saddam’s SCUD missiles. Then large numbers of SF troops were the first military units to arrive after the Joint Special Operations Command.

Early on, the SF soldiers battled members of the Ansar Al Islam terrorist group and discovered their chemical weapons factory in Sargat. Special Forces took out many of these terrorists and disabled the factory. After Saddam was found, most Special Forces troops were tasked with training the new Iraqi army.
