Cuba Reprint Corrects Spelling Error
The US acquired Cuba following the 1898 Spanish-American War. US stamps were initially overprinted. Then new stamps were produced in the US for use in Cuba. Among these new stamps was an 1899 Special Delivery issue picturing a bike messenger. At the bottom of the stamp, the Spanish word for “immediate” was incorrectly spelled “immediata” instead of “inmediata.”
After US military administration ended in 1902, Cuba began producing its own stamps. Among them was this corrected Special Delivery – get yours now.
