Vintage Deluxe Supreme Postal Scale Makes the Perfect Complement to Your Stamp Collection

Before the days of digital scales, businesses weighed mail by postal scales like this.  The Deluxe Supreme Postal Scale was made by IDL Mfg. & Sales Corp. in the mid-1900s, when it cost just 3¢ to mail a First-Class letter.  The wording on the front of the scale makes reference to Special Delivery and Parcel Posts, a reminder of a bygone era.  It would have been used for mail weighing between ½ ounce to four pounds.  The corresponding chart indicates the postage needed for each weight for letters, Air Mail, newspapers and magazines, and books.  There is also a zone rate chart for heavier parcels.
