50 Stamps from Bohemia & Moravia:
Rare Relics from Nazi-Occupied Czechoslovakia

These are stamps with a dark and gripping history.

When Nazi Germany dismembered Czechoslovakia in 1939, the western regions — Bohemia and Moravia — became a Reich Protectorate under direct German control. For the next six years, the occupied territory issued its own distinctive stamps, bearing the dual inscription Böhmen und Mähren / Čechy a Morava in both German and Czech — a visible symbol of a conquered people forced to live under occupation.

Stamps from this era are genuine historical documents, and collectors of World War II history, German Reich issues, and Central European philately actively seek them out.

Selections will vary, but the one I looked through included:

  • A portrait stamp of Adolf Hitler, a standard Nazi-era definitive issued across Reich territories — a sobering and historically significant item.
  • Carrier pigeon definitives (12h and 5h values) — a distinctive design used throughout the Protectorate's stamp program, featuring a dove in flight against a blue background.
  • A 60+40h semipostal stamp depicting Karl IV (Charles IV), the 14th-century Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia who founded Prague's Charles University in 1348 — one of the most revered figures in Czech history, here pressed into service on a Nazi occupation stamp.
  • A 4K industrial landscape stamp showing factories and smokestacks — a nod to Bohemia's role as one of the Reich's most important industrial and armaments centers during the war.
  • Postage due (DMZ) stamps in 1K and 120K values, with the bold numeral design used for unpaid mail — utilitarian but historically complete pieces of the occupation postal system.
  • A 6h stamp featuring a linden branch, the linden tree being the national symbol of the Czech people — quietly present even on stamps issued under German rule.

Only a handful of countries issued stamps under Nazi occupation, and Bohemia & Moravia's issues are among the most historically significant. At 50 different stamps, this packet gives you a meaningful, collectible snapshot of one of history's most turbulent chapters.
