Founded by the Count of Ardennes in 963 A.D., Luxembourg is located between Germany, France and Belgium.  Because of its central location and small area (only 999 square miles), other countries have been major influences on Luxembourg’s culture.  One of the largest areas of foreign influence has been on Luxembourg’s language.  While both French and German are the country’s official languages, Luxembourgish is recognized as the national language.  Originally of Germanic origin, Luxembourgish has evolved into a combination of German, French and even English.
