This commemorative issue honors the "Father of Black History." Woodson (1875-1950) overcame economic and social barriers to become the person most responsible for researching, writing, and teaching about the heritage of black Americans.  In 1926, Woodson pioneered the acknowledgement of the second week in February as " Nego History Week.  Today, the celebration has been extended throughout the entire month and February is known as Black History Month.
