This joint issue by the U.S., Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands commemorates the 1986 compact of free association.  It granted political independence to the people of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.  Each had been a U.S. trust since the end of World War II. U.S. #2506 was issued as part of a set of two, which includes U.S. #2507.
