Own a 19th-Century Advertising Cover From the Great American Tea Company (Later Known as A&P)
This 19th century advertisign cover is from the Great American Tea Company, later known as the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company or A&P. A&P grocery stores may have gone out of business in 2015, but this is a little piece of the decades of history behind the company.
This cover features the 1869 2¢ Pictorial stamp (US #113). It represents the importance of horseback mail delivery in US postal history. There was a little controversy ver the design as some people say the horse looks like it's leaping instead of galloping.
AND there's a fancy cancel! This particular design is called the "Circle of Wedges" and was carved in cork by a postal clerk at the end of the 19th century before the US created standard cancellation rules.
This really is a neat little cover. Get it in your collection today – only ONE available!
