Own this Uncut Sheet of $5 Banknotes Issued by Louisiana Bank
This is your chance to own beautifully engraved bank notes created by the same firm that printed America's first postage stamps – Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson. This uncut sheet of four $5 banknotes dates back to the days before the Civil War. Issued by the Citizens’ Bank of Louisiana, it displays the beauty and craftsmanship of local currency.
In the days before the Civil War, it was common for states, banks, and even businesses to issue private currency. Chartered in 1833, the Citizens’ Bank of Louisiana was one of the largest banks in America. It began issuing bank notes in English and French. The central vignette on the $5 note features a female figure with a Phrygian cap at the tip of a spear, resting alongside the American crest and a cornucopia. The two numeral 5’s on either side are composed of cherubs. The bill was printed with black and red ink on the obverse (front) side and blue ink on the reverse.
