About the Coin Subjects:

Battle of Brooklyn Heights - The Battle of Brooklyn Heights, also known as the Battle of Long Island, took place in August 1776, with General George Washington leading the Continental Army against British forces commanded by General William Howe.  The British decisively defeated the Americans, forcing Washington to make a strategic retreat across the East River to Manhattan, narrowly avoiding capture.  This battle marked the first major engagement after the Declaration of Independence and demonstrated the strength of the British military, highlighting the challenges the Continental Army would face throughout the war.

John Sullivan - John Sullivan was a major general in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.  He is best known for leading the 1779 Sullivan Expedition, which aimed to weaken the Iroquois Confederacy allied with the British by destroying their villages and resources.  After the war, Sullivan returned to New Hampshire, where he served as the state's attorney general, a delegate to the Continental Congress, and later as governor.

Horatio Gates - Horatio Gates was a British-born American general who served on the side of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.  He is best known for his role in the American victory at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777, a turning point in the war, but later suffered a major defeat in the Battle of Camden in 1780.  After the war, Gates retired from the military and eventually settled in Virginia, where he lived quietly until his death in 1806.

Battle of Germantown - The Battle of Germantown took place on October 4, 1777, between General George Washington's Continental Army and British forces led by General Sir William Howe.  Although the Americans launched a surprise attack and fought fiercely, the British ultimately won due to fog, confusion, and miscommunication among the American troops.  Despite the loss, the battle demonstrated the growing strength and resilience of the Continental Army, helping to impress France and gain support for the American cause.

Henry Knox - Henry Knox was an American military officer who served as the chief artillery officer for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, fighting on the side of the American colonists against the British.  He is best known for transporting captured artillery from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in 1775, a feat that helped force the British to evacuate the city.  After the war, Knox became the first US Secretary of War under President George Washington, playing a key role in shaping early American military policy.
