Mint Sheet Honors RMS Lusitania

This sheet of six mint Ghana stamps commemorates the famous passenger liner that was sunk by a German U-boat in 1915.  Its destruction was one of the reasons America joined World War I two years later.  These stamps include vintage photograph of the Lusitania's interior and exterior.  Three stamps split one photograph of the entire length of the ship, a reminder that it was the largest passenger ship of its time for a short period.

The selvage of the sheet includes schematic drawings of the Lusitania as well as a paragraph which reads:  "The Royal Mail Ship 'Lusitania' was made with the most luxurious furnishing and equipped with the strongest engines of the time.  In 1915, a German U-boat sank the RMS Lusitania during her final voyage from New York to Liverpool.  Her destruction would later influence America's decision to issue a declaration of war in 1917."
