Canada Stamp Celebrates 2024 Total Solar Eclipse
On March 14, 2024, Canada Post issued its first eclipse stamp in anticipation of the April 8 total solar eclipse. The stamp was designed using a combination of photography and illustration. A special varnish was added, which glows under black light. A thin line traces the path of the eclipse across Canada. The bottom of the stamp pictures landscapes the eclipse passed over – including Niagara Falls.
An eclipse happens when the moon blocks the sun. A total eclipse only occurs in a given area once every 400 years. In 2024, crowds from southwestern Ontario to eastern Newfoundland and Labrador gathered to witness the once-in -a -lifetime event. This stamp is a vivid reminder of that history-making day when the sky was darkened in the middle of the day. Order one for your collection today.
