Lithuania's first mail service was introduced in 1562, but they had a primitive messaging service in place wince the 10th or 12th century.  At one point, the country was under control of the Russian Empire, and after World War I broke out, Germany occupied Lithuania and Lithuania used overprinted Germany stamps.  Lithuania gained independence February 16, 1918, and issued its first postage stamps later that year.  In 1940, the country was occupied by the Soviet Union and Lithuania postage stamps were overprinted "LTSR" which was the Lithuanian abbreviation for Lithuanian Socialist Soviet Republic.  All the stamps you receive today will be from before 1940.  You'll enjoy discovering these old classic stamps and their unique history.  Order today.
