Reverse with Ashbrook's note, "From San Francisco Sep 5 1857, this is a First Day Use of 10¢ perforated stamp from California - Stanley B. Ashbrook." There was an off-cover pair of the 1857 10¢ green, type II with a July dated c.d.s. strike from the Fisher collection that is the earliest known usage.
