These Match and Medicine stamps (also known as Proprietary stamps) are over 100 years old and have many different and unique designs.  They were created in response to the Revenue Act of 1862, which taxed a number of items (including matches and medicines) to help pay for the Civil War.  Stamps were used to show proof of payment of these taxes.  Many companies designed their own stamps to advertise their wares, creating lots of different varieties.  Stamps may have one or two small imperfections, as you'd expect of stamps this old.  Add them to your collection today.
