Here's Some of the History These Stamps Capture:

Up until 1925, the government flew the mail.  Then, private companies were contracted and the 15¢ and 20¢ Biplane Map stamps (C8 and C9) were issued for that service.  Ford was the first contractor that flew mail.

In 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly nonstop from New York to Paris.  His plane, the Spirit of St. Louis is featured on stamp C10.

Four 1941 Big Plane stamps (C25, C26, C29, C30) picture an aircraft that never existed – if it did, the bottom of the tail would be torn off as it took off.  Design based on the DC-3, Lockheed Electra, and Beech 18.

The 1948 5¢ stamp (C37) shows DC-4 Sky Master, which played a critical role in the Allied war effort and the Berlin Airlift of 1948-49.  It was the first Airmail coil stamp.

The 1952 80¢ Hawaii Fountainhead stamp (C46) paid the rate to ship an orchid from Hawaii to the United States.

These stamps are also included: C17, C19, C23, and C57.

These stamps represent more than 30 years of Airmail stamp history.  Get them for your collection.
