The US stamp and one of the Sweden stamps show a profile portrait of Alfred Nobel, along with the obverse side of two Nobel prizes – one for literature and sciences, and the other the famed Peace medal. The other Sweden stamps picture the reverse sides of the medals awarded for the physiology/medicine prize, the physics and chemistry prize, and the literature award.
The stamps were designed by Olof Baldursdottir of Sweden. Czeslaw Slania, a Polish-born court engraver for Sweden, engraved all the stamps. He had previously engraved over 1,000 stamps.
